Your wallet app stops working. What now?

How this wallet works

The holder keeps keys A and B. A provider keeps key C. Any two different keys are needed to approve a payment.

The wallet app brings everything together. In this example, it also holds the only copy of the wallet setup information.

What is a signing key?

A signing key lets a device approve a Bitcoin transaction. This example uses three different keys and requires two of them. A second copy of the same key does not count as a different key.

About this example

This is a generic 2-of-3 wallet, not a TBA service model. The holder is available and authorised, the keys are usable, and no theft or malicious software is involved. Technical ability to spend does not prove legal authority. Your actual arrangements may differ.

Agree when to review your plan. Revisit it sooner if your wallet, provider, family or access changes. Arrange any technical checks separately, with someone who has the right expertise. Do not reveal backups or move bitcoin for this exercise.

This helps you prepare. It does not test recovery, create a legal document or confirm that everything is in place.

The Bitcoin Adviser

Want to discuss what would happen in your situation if something stopped working?

Through The Bitcoin Adviser, I can help you put a plan in place and keep it up to date. We can discuss your questions and whether TBA’s ongoing support would suit you.

TBA helps you put the agreed custody arrangements in place. The service includes a personalised Estate Plan Protocol (a practical guide for your family), introductions for your family and ongoing guidance. You still need your own qualified advisers for legal and tax matters. TBA cannot move clients’ bitcoin on its own.

There is a fee for TBA’s ongoing support. View pricing and terms. ↗

Already a TBA client, or a family member of one?

Use the Estate Plan Protocol prepared for you or your family member and contact the assigned adviser. You can arrange an introduction together with your family as part of the service. Further contact depends on the consent needed, what information can be shared and who is allowed to act.

For an inheritance, look under “Start here” in the client’s protocol. It lists TBA Estate Support, the main contact and an alternative. TBA Estate Support is available at contact@thebitcoinadviser.com. Use the contacts in that document. Wenze may not be the assigned adviser.

Before bitcoin can be transferred, the authorised representative and required documents must be checked. The applicable agreement and current terms determine the process, any costs and required documents. Confirm these with the assigned TBA adviser or Estate Support. Inheritance taxes and costs charged by other parties may also apply. Access is not immediate: the required steps and checks must be completed first.
